Packet
This page will be devoted to the use of Packet Radio on the 2-Meter band.
As most of you know Packet Radio is an old technology that was a pre-cursor
to the moden Internet. Users were able to conduct interactive chat sessions,
send and receive e-mails, and even transfer binary files from one station to
another. Packet users were also able to connect to stations beyond the range
of a Simplex connection by using Packet stations along the way to repeat - or
digipeat the signals to the final destination Packet station. In today's world
of the Internet this would be considered a very crude method of passing information,
but it still works and it is a lot of fun. And it can be used when the Internet
is down - maybe Emcomm situations? What I will attempt to do on this page is
provide you with the configuration of my station: the quipment used, the settings
of my TNC...etc. But be assured that I have only scratched the surface of Packet
radio myself. Do not consider me an expert on the subject - just one who knows
enough to get a station up and running. I will provide links to other resources
that go way beyond my ability.
